Meet Olia Zavozina

OLIA IN COLOR 205x300 Meet Olia ZavozinaOlia Zavozina is a Russian Born Fashionista who started her journey by leaving her hometown at the age of 18.  Olia has been traveling and exploring the world of fashion ever since.

With multiple degrees in world economics, an MBA in business administration, biblical ethics and religion, she could not let her passion for fashion go. Olia started her own label at the age of 20.

Designing beautiful garments that show your personality through design, color and texture is a passion of Olia’s.  Her goal is to build a relationship with her customer that is much more than just a sale.  The foundation of Olia’s line is based on the concept that quality goods and excellent service will yield  success.

I believe that Olia’ concept is also that of  The Something Blue Shoppe.  That, along with her beautiful creations are going to be a perfect fit here at Something Blue.

The softness of silks, luscious laces that are exclusive to The House of Zavozina, and gentle styling make this collection dreamy and unique.  I’ve been in this business for quite a long time and I’ve seen thousands of bridal gowns, and never have I been so impressed with a designer as I am with Olia.  She is sweet, caring, funny, creative, and puts her best into every gown.

You won’t want to miss the opportunity to meet Olia and see her beautiful gowns.  If you are getting married, you need to call for an appointment.  You’ll be happy you did.

Off to Europe to see exciting new Gowns

Here I am just a week away from my annual trip to Europe with Justin Alexander Bridals and Sarah Danielle.  I am excited to be going to the Mododex Show in Essen, Germany.  We’ll see lots of the great new European styles, as well as designs from the American companies.  I’ll be bringing lots of beautiful, exciting, glamorous bridal gowns and dresses for mothers into the store from this buying trip.

After I complete business in Essen, I’ll travel to Dusseldorf for a couple of days and then on to Vienna, Austria.  This will be the tourist part of my trip and I know it will be exciting.  I’m thrilled that one of my daughters, Ceil Heath, will accompany me on this trip.

Check back often, I’ll post some pictures from the trip and let you know more about the wonderful fashions.

Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011

Many thanks to the great models who showed off our selection of gowns to their very best.  The girls did a great job.  Special thanks to T.J. Holmes, Birmingham, for his help with the design and set up of our booth and the runway decorations.  TJ was also a huge help to the girls during the show.  You are THE BEST TJ, thanks.

Our show started with our little girl, Ella Vest, asleep on the runway.  She was apparently dreaming of the day she would walk down the asile in a beautiful gown.  She entered the gates of the enchanted garden and behold………. a whole array of fashion began.  The veils were shown with the model wearing all black to better she the intricate detailing of the veils.

At the conclusion of the program, little Ella again appeared, saying “wait for me” to the models.  This time she was dressed in a beautiful little maids gown from US Angels.

We had a great time and hope to be invited to do another show soon.

Below are some picture, in no particular order, of the show.  These photos are courteousy of Melody Rankin, photographer in training, from Decatur.Bridal Event 2011 4921 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 458 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 446 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 403 300x200 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 398 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 397 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 367 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 350 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 345 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 334 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 311 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 304 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 295 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 280 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 263 300x200 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 184 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 150 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 136 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 130 200x300 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 071 300x200 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 064 300x200 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011Bridal Event 2011 043 300x200 Birmingham Bridal Show 2/2011

Soho Bridal Show

SoHo Show

Robin and I had so much fun last Sunday, August 8, at the SoHo Bridal Show at Rosewood Hall in Homewood, Alabama.  There was wedding Vendors from Birmingham as well as other areas in the state of Alabama.  It is always nice to go out and meet the brides in a bridal trade show atmosphere.                    IMG 2816 150x150 Soho Bridal Show

Birmingham Perfect Wedding Guide was host to the event.  It was a beautiful show, with many outstanding presentations for creating the perfect wedding.

I didn’t get a really good picture of our presentation area.  We showed 5 bridal gowns from 2BE Bride, Marisa, and Pronovias.  The most popular gown was a 2BE, designed by Terri Hilferty.   It was Silk taffeta, very fitted rusched bodice and over the hips, with a sweetheart strapless neckline.  The brides also really liked the Marisa gown that was a similar style to that of a Vera Wang.  It was strapless sweetheart, laser cut silk organza.

It was really hard deciding what gowns to take to the show.  Room is limited and we have so many beautiful new gown from which to choose.  We have a complete new section of Something Blue Gowns.  These are gowns that our buyers choose for our brides.  They are exclusive, and extremely well priced under $600.00

Justin Alexander has a new presence in our store as well.  The new Justin gowns are exciting and fashionable and in huge demand.  Jose Dias, the designer has outdone himself on this line.  you’ll just have to come in and take a look.  Seeing is loving.

Really Fun Trip

I often tell you about my travel to markets to find beautiful and exciting new bridal gowns and accessories for our brides.  This past week I took a different kind of trip and as a proud Grand mom (Nanah); I also wanted to share that.  IMG 2832 150x150 Really Fun Trip

My husband Donald and I traveled to Demopolis, AL to see our grandson, Hagan Michael, and his fellow teammates play in the SE regional 14 year olds Babe Ruth League baseball tournament.  Hagan is from Tallahassee, FL and his team won the Florida state championship.  That made them eligible for the regional tourney.

THEY WON!!!  We were so excited and so happy that we had the opportunity to see them play.

They will advanceIMG 2804 150x150 Really Fun Trip now to the World Series in Purcellville, VA.  It is August 21 through August 28.  I am sorry that we won’t get to go and see that big event.  I’ll be at the National Cool Book Meeting and Prom Market in Atlanta.               IMG 2807 150x150 Really Fun Trip

Now I do love buying prom gowns and seeing all my COOL friends…….but the Nanah in me would love to be in Virginia.

The pictures are of my other grandson Andrew, a family friend Lisa, my cousin Connie, and of course Hagan and the team.

Amsterdam/Barcelona

IMG 1725 150x150 Amsterdam/Barcelona                   How lucky can one girl be?  I love my job.  I get to see brides to be when they find “the gown”.  I get to see the sparkle in their eyes and the big smiles.  It makes my heart swell every time.  Makes me happy.

Now I have another opportunity to travel to a wonderful place and see more wonderful gowns.  Laast year I had the good fortune to be invited to the European Bridal Market by Larry Warshaw and his son Justin, owners of Justin Alexander Bridals.  He provided a lovely trip for me to Harragate, England and then on to London.  It was just wonderful!  Now, he has invited me to travel in May to Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.  There I will get to see all the wonderful new styles, of not only the Justin Alexander gowns, but the Sweetheart division and the Sarah Danielles Social division.  I’ll get to see Jose Dias again.  Jose is the designer for the Justin and Sarah gowns.  He is amazing and fun and so talented.

After a few days in Amsterdam, (we’ll be there right at the end of the tulip festival), then on down to Barcelona,
Spain for the Pronovias Spring Expo.  I’ve never been to this huge gala event, but I’m told it is spectacular.

It will be so much fun to see the gowns and know that we are bringing innovative, beautiful new bridal gowns  into Alabama’s oldest bridal salon, The Something Blue Shoppe.  We have a long history is being “the best” and our staff and I strive every day to maintain that wonderful image.  Being able to travel the world to bring the vest best and the newest to our store is a pleasure, in every way.

After a few days in Amsterdan, I’ll move on to Barcelona, Spain where I’ll attend the fashion expo showing the Pronovias  gowns.  The 2011 bridal buying season is getting off to a really good start and I’m really looking forward to it.

It’s fun to bring new and exciting and innovative styles back to

Being the oldest bridal shop in the state puts a lot of pressure on to step it up.  We’ve been the BEST for over 40 years and we can’t let that reputation slip a notch.

After the Show

We had a great time at the Winfrey Hotel and the Bridal Show sponcered by BWP on Sunday.  We showed some great bridal gowns, mothers gowns and the beautiful Kristina Eaton Monogrammed Veils.  Our models were wonderful.  Mary K. started the show off with the fully gathered traditional gown of silk taffeta and re-embroidered lace.  The fitted jacket worn over the strapless gown and the entire creation was a hit.  Of course M.K. showed it in the best way any model can show a gown.  We had Hannah in a strapless, A-line satin gown, Lizzy, in her bare feet in the baby doll gown, both from 2-BE Bridal, and Emily showed off the Marisa gown with the raw edged asymetrical layers.  Jennifer, Robin, Melody, and Valecia also wore exciting gowns ranging in style from fitted sophisticated, to full ball gown accented with feathers.

I have to say that one of the most popular gowns was the Sweetheart by Justin Alexander that we showed in our booth.  No one could believe that it was under $600. but it is.  It was so pretty with a sweetheart strapless neckline and  fitted to just below the hipline where it flared out to a trumpet skirt.

Bridal shows are a lot of work but we get to meet so many new and interesting brides.  We met one Mom who was doing the show for her daughter, a soon to be bride who is in Israel.  We also saw some old friends, and that is always a pleasure.

Look  for pictures to be posted (hopefully this week) of our girls in the show and afterward, clowning around in the photo booth.

Birmingham Bridal Show

Sunday, February 28 is going to be a great day for Brides to see and learn about all  the newest trends in weddings, receptions, photography, cakes and catering, and most importantly, fashion.  We will participate in the Birmingham Wedding Pages largest show of the year.  The Winfrey Hotel is the setting and it is going to be a spectacular event.

We will showing not only our exclusive wedding gown and monogrammed veils in the fashion show, but in our booth, some really lovely gowns for Moms.

Bridal shows are fun, we get to meet a lot of brides.  Most of the time we see brides that we already know.  Some have already purchases their special wedding gown from us.  It is exciting to see all the girls in a little different setting.  Everyone attending will have weddings on their mind.

What a fun day it’s going to be.  I hope we see you there.
