Joelle

     IMG 2781 Joelle           Joelle

Our new office manager is Joelle.  She is petite and feisty and a very hard worker.  She has a dry sense of humor that we all enjoy.  She won’t admit it, but we think she is a real softy where children are concerned.  She has one grown son, Wesley, but talks a lot about her nieces and nephews and recently took some of them to Florida.

Joelle and husband John have a cat named moo and enjoy swimming in their pool.  Joelle likes the band “Alice in Chains” and the TV program “Lost”.  Her favorite male movie star is Michael Keaton.

Her goal at The Something Blue Shoppe is to do her part to make the experience of shopping for and finding a wedding gown the most pleasant part of the wedding planning.

Joelle says she is friendlier than she looks, but we all think she is terrific and very friendly.

Joelle is the one who takes care of orders and freight at Something Blue.  If you have an item on order, she will know when it is due and be able to tell you exactly when to expect it.

We’re happy to have Joelle.  She is fast becoming my new “right arm”.

Life as a Shop Dog

Whew…..   IMG 2059 e1266951425813 273x300 Life as a Shop Dog           being a shop dog to a bunch of ladies is hard work. They love to ruffle my hair and rub by ears, and Ms. Claudia gives me back rubs too.   They are always so busy, I wish we had more play time.  Today they are helping these pretty girls who are so friendly to me, to find their wedding gowns.  That’s what we do here, help brides and prom girls and the girls Mothers.    The Something Blue Shoppe is always a busy place.  When the ladies are not helping the new brides, they are unpacking the big boxes of new gowns and other good stuff.  Yesterday they got this really huge box of Sherry Hill Prom gowns.  Gosh, were they pretty?  My human mama, Sarah, won’t let me anywhere near any of the stuff in the store, but I get to sit on the desk and see it all.  One day Miss Linda opened up a box of dresses and I thought there was something bad in there.  I growled and growled but then she showed me it was just a leopard print dress.  The ladies thought it was soooo funny that I was scared.   I don’t really understand all they do here.  I know they like to play with me but just don’t have time to play ball and play chase, that’s my favorite.  They say they have to be really really careful with the brides things and be sure everything is just perfect for her wedding day, or her prom.    Boy, all this work they do wears me out.  I think I’ll take a little snooze.  When you come in, but sure and ask for me, I love belly rubs.IMG 2060 300x225 Life as a Shop Dog

Robin

IMG 1967 Robin

Meet Robin, a member of our bridal staff who is young, energetic, has a great sense of style and is eager to please her brides.

Robin is the “mom” to 2 cats, Punkin and Tinkerbell and sister to Melody.  Her favorite male movie star is Hugh Jackman and she likes Julia Roberts as well.  If she could have her choice “dream car” it would be a Nissan 350Z.  She loves the holiday season from Halloween through the New Year.

Robin has not been with us long and is watching  Say Yes to the Dress to learn more about how other consultants work.

We all love having Robin on our team.  She is fun and very creative.  You might be impressed to know that she has done some of the art déco painting at the prom shop, Something Blue Too.

She would like her brides to know that she is deaf in her left ear, so that is why you will always find her on your left.

One thing that really impresses me about Robin is her personal mission statement; “Well Behaved women rarely make history.”  How true that is!

Oscar

IMG 1937 225x300 Oscar    1 225x300 OscarA vital member of our staff is Oscar.  He is a parti poodle and he comes to work often.  He has many duties as office dog.  He begs food whenever we have any, he wags his tail for anyone who happens to walk by, and he always lays down, belly up, for a rub when someone enters the office.  One of the most important aspects of his duties is that of attitude adjuster.  If anyone on the staff comes to work feeling a little down, he will always coax that right away. He loves treats, a walk in the park across the street and a game of fetch any time someone has a free minute to play.  Oscar is not allowed on the floor with the gowns, but he appreciates the customer who stops by the office to say hello and give him a pat.  His hobbies when not at work are playing with his best pal, Annie dog, talking to the big dog behind the backyard fence at home, and chasing an occasional fox if given the opportunity.  IMG 1942 300x225 Oscar

Liz

IMG 1938 225x300 Liz        We often say that the person who works the hardest in our store is Lizzy.  She is our runner, our hanger.  Lizzy works on Thursday evenings and Saturdays.  Those are the days when we have so many brides that the consultants can’t seem to clear out the rooms and get the gowns re-hung and back into the bays.  She will also assist the consultants when they need help with finding shoes, undergarments, etc. for their brides.

Lizzy is a senior at Hartselle High School.  She is about to begin her 4th year at Something Blue.  Her favorite subject is history and her least favorite subject is math.  She says she plays no sports, but enjoys watching soccer.  She has one brother, 2 cats and 21 first cousins.

We love Liz, and we love to tease her.  She has a very dry wit and unusual sense of humor.  Her beautiful eyes are her best feature, along with her beautiful long, naturally curly hair (which she hates). Liz makes life much easier for the consultants and therefore, for the brides!

Mary

Mary has been working with brides at The Something Blue Shoppe for almost 22 years.  She is one of our skilled seamstresses, working mostly with bridesmaids, and also is a bridesmaid consultant.  mary 225x300 Mary

She is the mother of three daughters and the grandmother of three, two girls and one boy.  Mary loves dogs and although she doesn’t have one of her own, she has 7 granddogs and she “babysits” them often.

She thinks her brides might be surprised to know that all the consultants take turns with the vacuum and dusting as well as other housekeeping duties.

Her dream wedding location is a church with beautiful stained glass windows and her favorite color is, guess what? Blue.  She loves shrimp and  Auburn football, James Garner and Katherine Hepburn.  An avid traveler, Mary hopes someday to go to Australia and New Zealand.

Emily

The youngest of our family of consultants, Emily is talented and extremely conscientious.  She is one of those women who always look younger than she really is.   She loves meeting new brides from all across the Southeast. IMG 1922 225x300 Emily

Emily says she wants her brides to have faith in her and her ability to help them find their dream wedding gown.  “I want my brides to enjoy their experience shopping with us and to have FUN!

Her dream car is a new truck or SUV that requires no gas, no payments and no service.  She would love to go to Figi and she loves all kinds of music.     Her favorite movie stars are Reese Witherspoon and Morgan Freeman.  Emily loves spending time with her daughter and her large family of 4 brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews.

Suzanne

IMG 1913 225x300 SuzanneSuzanne is the mother of one daughter, who just also happens to work at Something Blue Too.  She and husband Robert have been married 27 years and their only pet is a blue eyed white cat named Runt.

Suzanne loves her brides and the thing she enjoys most about her job is seeing the girls’ faces when they’ve found the “perfect gown”.  The thing she dislikes most is seeing a bride go out with a gown that someone talked her into, rather than following her heart and choosing the gown she really wanted.  Her devotion to her brides is always evident in her zest to find the “dream gown, the dream veil, the dream headpiece, shoes, accessories etc”.

Her favorite color is green and her favorite scent is citrus or mulberry.  She loves Greek food, Mel Gibson and Diane Lane, along with favorite TV show, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and favorite song, BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATERS.

Melanie

melanie 225x300 Melanie                       Melanie is not only a great bridal consultant, but is also the manager of Something Blue Too.  She has worked at Something Blue for 7 years and became the prom shop manager when it first opened 5 years ago.

She has 2 married daughters, both graduates of Mississippi State University, and she was a Something Blue bride when she married husband Tom,  28 years ago.

The thing that Melanie’s brides might be surprised to know about her is that she has 6 dogs and that she is a sports nut.  Her favorite sport is football.   Her favorite movie stars are Robin Williams and Sally Field.  Melanie is a true Alabama girl and her favorite song says it all, SWEET HOME ALABAMA.  Melanie also loves olive green and the smell of oranges.
